Eldon Miller was a Sergeant for the Kansas Highway Patrol. He served for the Police Force for 15 years. He died in the line of duty at age 48. He was assisting in a massive manhunt for two suspects who had shot and wounded a Overland Park Police Officer in Overland Park, Kansas. The suspects abandoned vehicle was located near an apartment complex. Officers were in the process of searching the complex. The suspects fired through one door of the Apartment Complex at the approaching Officers. Sgt. Miller who was outside the Apartment, jumped into a Patrol Car and drove it towards the Apartment window to provide cover for his fellow officers. As he did so, the suspects opened fire through the window, striking Sgt. Miller in the head.
