Mrs. Carrie Dee Clay
April 14, 1915 - December 14, 2009
Mother Carrie Dee Clay was born in Lacey Springs, Alabama, on April 14, 1915, to the late Ira and Willie Brewton. She was the second of ten children.
Mother Carrie Dee Clay confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the A.M.E. Methodist Church in Lacey Springs. She married the late Robert Clay and to this union two sons were born, Robert Gene Clay (deceased) and David Dee Clay.
Mother Carrie Dee Clay was a dedicated worker, who loved helping people. In her latter years, she joined the Beirne Avenue Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Dave Draper, Sr. She continued to serve in the church until her health would no longer allow.
Mother Carrie Dee Clay leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted son, David Dee Clay (wife, Julia); six grandchildren, David D. Clay, Jr. (wife, Keisha), Deidre L. Clay, Virginia Clay King (husband, Samuel) all of Fayetteville, NC, Kenneth Clay of Petersburg, VA, Camilla Clay Andrews of Virginia Beach, VA, and Gordon D. Clay of Brooklyn, NY; ten great-grandchildren, three sisters and a brother, Bertha Spencer of Tampa, FL, Laura Kelley, Brazola Spencer, and Alfonza Brewton all of Huntsville, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ (313 Beirne Avenue, NE, Huntsville, AL 35801) with Pastor Dave Draper, Jr., officiating. Interment will be held in Northside Cemetery. Mrs. Clay will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Royal Chapel of Memories.
Public viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009; 8:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009.
