Bath, IL - Wayne Friend, 60, of 13244 E. County Road 600N died at 2:49 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home.

Born Sept. 18, 1943, in Menard County to Clifford W. and Margaret Barrett Friend, he married Kara Barker on Nov. 11, 1968, in Kilbourne. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother of Kilbourne; four sons, Scott and Timothy, both of Bath, Anthony of Havana and Michael of Kilbourne; one brother, Don (and Joy) of Bath; four sisters, Mrs. Pete (Ruth) Shoemaker of Bath, Mrs. Donald (Nina) Bryant of Havana, Mary Muller of Saltan, Wash., and Mrs. Jimmy (Connie) Chew of Florence, Mont.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He served in the Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972.

A member of Mason County Farm Bureau, he farmed in Mason and Menard counties.

He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in rural Kilbourne, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Burial will be in Bath Cemetery.
