Ethel Burcham never married. She had a steady fella named Guy Beck, who was a neighbor. After the death of her younger sister, Ethel helped with the care of her sister's two children and later cared for her parents. Guy Beck was said to have a sister who required constant care. This is probably why they never married. In a letter to her niece in Texas, dated January 22, 1928 she made the comment, "It is about time for my beau to come so will go powder and try to look pretty." Ethel was a Sunday school teacher at the Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, IL, for many years.
