Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Church for Raymond P. Backes, 78, 126 29th Ave. N, who died Monday at his home.

The Rev. Greg Lieser will officiate and burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.

Mr. Backes was born July 31, 1904, in Farming, to the late Joseph P. and Benedicta (Willenbring) Backes. He married Catherine Hondl May 9, 1933, in St. Catherine's Church, Farming. He farmed in the Farming area until 1959, when he moved to St. Cloud. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, St. Cloud.

Survivors include his wife, children, Earl, Farming; Mrs. William (Julie) Wunderlich, Foley; Jane, Darlene and Mrs. John (Linda) Kidd, St. Cloud; and Sister JoAnne, OSB, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leander, Foley; Mrs. Ed (Susie) Peters, Little Falls; Mrs. Bertha Mehr, Mrs. Verina Brix and Clarence, St. Cloud; Harold, Cold Spring; Albin and Herbert, Farming; Mrs. Rita Bauer, Elrosa; Arthur, Minneapolis; and Mrs. Herbert (Isabel) Schefers, Ramey.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark, Roger and James Backes, Brian, Daniel and David Wunderlich.
