CLINTON, Tennessee —
Donald Franklin "Don" Greene, 82, of Clinton, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Greene was born July 15, 1928, in Knoxville, to George and Effie Greene. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Don graduated summa cum laude in 1957 from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in art education.
Don taught elementary school art in Wyandotte, Michigan, from 1957 to 1967. He taught fourth and fifth grades at Linden Elementary School in Oak Ridge from 1967 until his retirement in 1990.
He was a long-time member of the Oak Ridge Retired Teachers' Association. He loved reading, listening to classical music, eating out, gardening, and following Tennessee Volunteer football and basketball, as well as Atlanta Braves baseball.
Mr. Greene is survived by nieces and nephews; a great-nephew; a great-niece; sisters-in-law; good neighbors of Clinton; many friends in Oak Ridge and Knoxville; and hundreds of former students.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, George and Effie Greene; siblings, Rose Ford, Virgil Greene, Elmer Greene, Mary Lay, and George Greene; also a nephew, Bobby Greene.
