OBITUARY
Rites Conducted Here Saturday For Cole Nelson
Funeral services for Cole Enoch Nelson, resident of Antlers for nearly three-quarters of a century, were conducted at 2:30 pm Saturday, Dec 17, in the First Methodist church. Interment was in the Antlers City cemetery under direction of Sanford Funeral Home.
Nelson died in the Veteran's Administration hospital at Oklahoma City Wednesday, Dec. 14. He was 72 years of age.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Easley, Dee Murry, Tony Silvers, Dow Woolbridge, Bill Walker, Carl Hendrix, Clarence Hall and Levi Higgins. Active bearers were Claude Winters, Terry Morris, Don Morris, Lowell Cummings, Stuart B. Halley, Jr., and Phillip Stevenson.
Born at Antlers March 15, 1894, when it was still Indian Territory, Nelson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Nelson. He was married to Bessie Margrette Presley December 10, 1925 at Benton, Ark.
A retired funeral director, he had made his home here until the past year when he became a patient in the Veteran's home clinic at Ardmore.
He was a member of the First Methodist church and served on the board of stewards until ill health made it necessary for him to relinquish the office.
He served in the National Guard and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the World War I Veterans organization and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Brantley C. Nelson, Marysville, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Pauline Sorrels, Farmington, N.M.; one brother, Eden Nelson, Beverly Hills, Calif.; one sister, Ms. Lucille Parks, Fremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
