Edna Bea Cherry was born the daughter of Elmer Franklin Cherry and Effie Josephine Anderson. They are buried in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Edna was married to Harvey Everett Trimble on February 5, 1929 in Marion, Linn, Iowa. He is buried in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Edna and Harvey were parents of four children: Richard Paul Trimble; Barbara Lillian Trimble (married Donald Bosenenberg); Jerald Harvey Trimble; Jon Robert Trimble. Edna, age 29, was burned to death at her home.


*Marion woman burned to death in kerosene blast-Burned from head to foot when a kerosene can exploded as she poured the last few drops from it into a kitchen stove at her home Thursday evening. Mrs. Edna Trimble, 28, wife of Harvey Trimble, rural route No. 3, Marion, died in a local hospital at 6:25 a.m. Friday. Two of Mrs. Trimble's four children were near her at the time and the youngest, Jon, 2, suffered extensive second-degree burn about his face, hands, arms and legs. He was still living Friday at St. Lukes Hospital but attendants said his condition was serious. Another boy, Jerald, 3, suffered minor burns on his arms. The tragic accident happened as Mrs. Trimble prepared to kindle the fire in the kitchen stove by using kerosene on the smoldering coals in the stove. The kerosene can was nearly empty and Trimble was about to fill it. Before giving her husband the can, Mrs. Trimble noticed there was a small quantity of kerosene in it, Trimble told relatives. The fire flared up and the can exploded. Mrs. Trimble's clothing was engulfed in the searing and the flames and her little son's clothing also caught fire. Trimble acted quickly, wrapping the victims in blankets to smother the fire. He also beat out fire on a curtain and shade which threatened to destroy the entire house. An ambulance was called and the victims taken to St. Lukes Hospital for treatment. The other children in the Trimble family are Richard, 6, and Barbara, 4. Mrs. Trimble was formerly Miss Edna Cherry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cherry of near Marion. She graduated from Marion High school in 1926 and was a member of the Christian Church. Trimble is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. H.E. Trimble of Centerville where the Rev. Mr. Trimble is pastor of the Christian Church. Surviving Mrs. Trimble, in addition to her children, parents and husband, are a brother, Carl, and a sister, Miss DeVee Cherry, and her grandmother, Mrs. Suzannah Cherry of Troy Mills. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Yocom Chapel at Marion, conducted by the Rev. C. J. Biddle of the Christian Church. Burial will be in the Troy Mills Cemetery.

Mrs. Edna Trimble who was born in Spring Grove township near Troy Mills, and will be remembered as a granddaughter of Mrs. Susannah Cherry, of Walker. Among the relatives from here attending Mrs. Trimble's services at Marion were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cherry, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilson, Mrs. William Reece, Mr. and Mrs. David Fay, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walton, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Shaffer, Mr. and Mrs. Ashley McCright, Mr. and Mrs. Lyde Shaffer, Harold Shaffer, Mrs. Winnie McCright, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cherry. Many other friends of the family were at the cemetery for the services there.
