He entered service on 17 May 1944. The 45th Engineers was a segregated African American unit that was tasked with building roads, bridges, and airfields; specifically the “Ledo Road” between Ledo, Assam, India to Kunming, China. The Ledo Road enabled the allies to transfer supplies to China. It is very likely that PFC Pollard contributed to the completion of the road in Jan 1945. He was honorably discharged on 28 Apr 1946.

He had a baby brother, Theodore Donald Pollard, who according to his death certificate, was born Mar. 1, 1920 and died Jun 17, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was buried in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, a predominantly African-American cemetery, at 2159 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA.
