He lived there until his early death from diabetes in 1932. He was active in real estate dealings in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Eagle Rock property

*Castle Crags (5027 El Verano Ave) is the oldest surviving residence in the Western portion of Eagle Rock. Built in 1888 in the Queen Anne style. It was the home of the Ellis family until sold to Charles and Emma Young in 1910. It was the subject of a Historic-Cultural Monument Application in 2008.
