MAIDEN NAME SPELLING:
~Some websites spell Nancy's maiden name: KEFER/KEPHER, but it was spelled "KEIFFER" when she married Peter. See marriage record: http://genforum.genealogy.com/mcferren/messages/6.html.
~ Death certificates for sons, George McFerren and Stephen McFerren state mother's maiden name: "Herfner." However, this spelling could be a transcription error on the part of the person complete the death certificates.
~ Subsequently, additional information on her husband's disability pension located by Dorothy Vigano in December 2015 at the National Archives revealed another spelling: "KEEFER." This memorial will continue to use, "Keiffer," as shown on her marriage certificate, unless birth we are able to find valid birth information. PARENTS: Unknown

PLACE OF BIRTH: UNKNOWN.
Although the 1860 US Census cites birth state as Maryland, two documents attached cite "Pennsylvania." There is a strong probability that Nancy was born in Maryland, possibly Hagerstown, Washington Co. MD (nearby Quincy, PA). IF YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO SHARE, PLEASE CLICK ON "EDIT" TAB, ABOVE.

MARRIED: Peter McFerren, July 8, 1841, Tomstown, PA

BURIED IN AN "UNMARKED" GRAVE FOR 112 YEARS. An entire search of Snow Hill Nunnery Cemetery was made by Al White ([email protected]) 07/21/11 and 12/18/11. No grave marker was found; but there is ample written evidence (see below) to support her burial at Snow Hill Nunnery. Thus, a "temporary" memorial plaque for Nancy was placed at the gravesite in March 2012 next to Peter McFerren by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home of Waynesboro, PA. Nancy was buried from this funeral home when it was formerly known as "Grove Funeral Home." In April 2012, a permanent memorial plaque was installed in her memory by great-great granddaughter, PATTY McFERREN-BLANTON.
