Ruth Marie Kivch, 77, passed away Monday, April 19, 2004, at the College Park Care Center in Texas City.


Ruth was born November 28, 1926, in Galveston, Texas. She graduated from Ball High School; she was a devoted mother of five children; her active years were given to the duties of her family. She loved to make cakes and have parties for her children. Ruth suffered with Epilepsy and for over 20 years she was in nursing homes. She never lost her spirit and would greet visitors with a warm smile. She had an excellent memory and shared some of her fondest memories with her sister. Most important to her were her Catholic faith and family. Those who knew and loved her will sadly miss Ruthie.


She is preceded in death by her parents, John W. Reifel and Blanche Ruth Zucconi Reifel Dean; and daughter Jo Von Marie Kivch.


Survivors include:

  • Son: Jack Richard Kivch, Jr. of Katy, Texas
  • Daughter Carol Kivch of Palestine, Texas
  • Daughter Debra Owens and husband James of Texas City
  • Son: Daniel Joseph Kivch and wife Carol of Santa Fe, Texas
  • Sister: Joyce E. Giblin and husband Eddie of San Antonio
  • Sister: Yvonne M. Hill and husband Robert of Galveston
  • Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
  • Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews


Services were held Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque with Msgr. T. Joseph Culver officiating. Burial to be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.


We sincerely thank Hospice for the excellent tender loving care extended to Ruthie.
