Served as a Confederate soldier in Company F, 4th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, of the famous Kentucky "Orphan Brigade," CSA. Enlisted 1 August 1861 and served in all the major battles of the Western Theater. Wounded at Shiloh. Surrendered with his company on 7 May 1865. Farmed in Green Co. after the war. Married Virginia Elizabeth "Jennie Bet" Montgomery on October 13, 1868. Two sons, Fayette and Milton (Milton was named for his cousin Milton, killed at Shiloh during the War Between the States).
