Mrs. Unger was born March 4, 1914 in Elkton, Ohio, a daughter of John and Viola Hindes Newhouse and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a 1932 graduate of the David Anderson High School, Lisbon.
She retired in 1979 as cafeteria supervisor for Leetonia Village Schools after 21 years of service. She was a member of St. Jacob?s United Church of Christ and was an avid quilter, having won first place for one of her quilts at the Canfield Fair. She also loved flowers.
Her husband, Walter F. Unger, whom she married December 10, 1936 died May 4, 1962.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ina Dutcher of Salem and Mrs. Kenneth (Marian) Kaufman of Petersburg; a son, John C. Unger of Florida; two sisters, Virginia Schuster and Meredith ?Rity? Schmidt, both of Salem; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A sister, Gladys Singer is also deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with the Reverend David E. Houdeschell, Interim Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
