This child was the first of four children born to Bernard Albert Hosman and Mary Ellen Pickens. Bernard is my Dad's cousin; the son of Harry Joseph Hosman and Cecil May Niles. Bernard was born in Harrison Co., IA, his father in Cuyahoga Co., OH, and his father (Joseph) was Czech - so most of this family can be found in OH, IA and NE. Bernard and Mary were married in DC 19 Mar 1943. He was in the Navy and based in the DC area at the time. This child was named Paul Vern Hosman. I didn't have any more information on him then his birth date and that he had died young, so this helps. Now I can find his birth/death record (appears to have been a still birth or at least died same day) in Calvert Co. Bernard died in Indianola, Warren Co., IA and is buried in Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Polk Co., IA - I don't have a picture of his grave to post at this time. I assume Mary is buried there also, but I don't actually know that for certain.

During WW II, the U.S. military had small bases all over the D.C./Va./Md. area. Some still remain though most are long gone and forgotten. Most likely Mr. Hosman was assigned to the very nearby facility at Chesapeake Beach, Md., today run by the U.S. Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C.
