Aletha Doris (Grimes) Jones was born January 21, 1916 on the Oliver Farm near Wells, Texas. She was one of 9 children born to Daisy (Franklin) and Jeff Grimes. The Grimes family lived on and farmed several farms in the vicinity of Wells, Texas. Mrs. Jones passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 in a local nursing facility.
In 1934, Aletha married Harvey Lee Jones. To their marriage, 5 children were born: Ira Lee, Dan, Doris (Sissy), George and David.
Aletha and Harvey Lee Jones owned and operated Jones Service Station near Wells, Texas for 24 years. Aletha later worked at the Lufkin State School until her retirement. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved her family very much. She attended Memorial Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Lisa Jones of Drumright, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren: Dennis Jones, Gail Jones, Lara Artherton, Ryan Jones, Jennifer Jones, Jeremy Jones, and Andrew Jones;17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Betty Lawrence.
In addition to her parents, Aletha was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Jones; and 4 children, Ira Lee, Dan, Doris, and David.
Services for Aletha will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
