Richard M. Corbet, 76, of Point Pleasant died peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at his home.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, Dick attended The Pingry School and was a standout student-athlete, captaining the 1952 basketball team to the only undefeated season in the school's 150 year history.

Dick's talents also led him to Pingry's Hall of Fame in both football and basketball. After Pingry, he attended Lehigh University and was a member of the Mountain Hawks football team.

He later went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army from 1957-1959.

Dick spent the majority of his life in Westfield with his own his family before moving to the shore area nearly 20 years ago.

Dick is predeceased by his parents William J. and Ethel Reilly Corbet.

He leaves his longtime companion Merle Dejong; son Richard M. Jr. & wife Maria of Edison; son Robert & wife Laura of Brielle; daughter Chrissy & husband Dave Johnston of Rockville, MD; and his grandchildren Rose, Richard M. III, Shauna, Megan, Thomas, Jake, Hannah, Grace, Andrew, Chloe, Collin, and Christopher; and his great grandson Brody. Also surviving is Dick's former wife, Joanne Corbet; his brother William J. & wife Joan of Westfield; his sister Sue & husband Charles Thomas of Summit; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick on Mon. November 29 from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Denis Church in Manasquan on Tues. November 30 at 9:30 am followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle.
