Some census data state that Lillian Laflin was born in Sydney, Australia, which is possible, as her parents -- though natives of Ireland -- had lived there prior to emigrating to the United States. Her death certificate and obituary give San Francisco as her place of birth, however, as do most other available sources and this is believed to be accurate.
Twice married, she was the mother of two daughters, Novelle Gilman and Lillie E. Gilman, by her first marriage (to Charles Gilman), and a son, Albert T. "Bert" Laflin (who later took the name James Albert Laflin in honor of his father), and a daughter, Violet F. Laflin (later Kelly and then Cheever), by her second marriage (to James "Jimmy" Laflin).
