Criminal. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for setting the dynamite that killed 21 newspaper employees and injuring 100 more in the 1910 Los Angeles Times Building bombing. He died from cancer at San Quentin California State Prison. His brother John J. MacNamara was convicted and sentenced to 15 years for bombing Iron Works.
