FIEVET, SR., JOHN PIERRE John was born on January 9, 1923, and died peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at age 87. He was a retired Senior Buyer and consultant for U. S. Steel. He was a survivor of the sinking of the troopship H.M.T. Rohna, which cost the lives of 1021 men, the second greatest loss of life at sea in World War II. He was a Purple Heart recipient who served in China with Claire Chennault's Flying Tigers. He attended Auburn University and completed his studies at Birmingham Southern College. John is survived by, in his words, "the love of his life," for 64 years, Catherine Ramsey Fievet. He was predeceased by son, Larry and is survived by sons John Pierre, Jr. (Emily) and Gerard J., daughters, Catherine F. Corley (Bob) and Michelle F. Lucas (Luke), eight grandchildren, John P. Fievet III (Anna), Matthew W. Fievet (Katy), Aimee Mack (Dylan), Sean B. Corley (Elizabeth), Rachel E. Corley, Jennifer Palvado, Ryan Strawbridge, Duncan Strawbridge and four great grandchildren. Mr. Fievet was also preceded in death by four brothers, Fred J. Jr., Lucien C., Harold E. and George W., and parents Fred J. and Willie Lee Fievet. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Mary and Sara Fievet and many nieces and nephews. He was a 32 year member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Services will be on Wednesday, November 24 beginning with visitation at 1 PM followed by funeral at 2 PM at Ridouts Valley Chapel. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. The family extends thanks to Dr. Guy Patterson for his caring, concern and attention during John's final days.
