Mrs. Lydia Cummings, died at her residents in this city Saturday night, January 27th. 1894, after an illness of several weeks. Grandma Cummings was known by almost every man, woman and child in this section. She had been a resident of Nemaha City for over twenty five years, and always had a friendly greeting for everyone. She was a devout member of the Methodist Church and was a faithful attendant at the Service as long as health permit. The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, Monday January 29th. at 10 o'clock AM. In the absence of Rev. Mr. Day, Rev. George Price, of Stella, Preached the funeral sermon. The discourse was a divine one and was attentively listened to by a large congregation. Later the remains were laid to rest in the Nemaha City cemetery.


Lydia (Collins) Cummings, wife of the late William Cummings, was born August 20th 1805, and died January 27th. 1894, aged 88 years, 5 Mo., 8 days, She was born in Harrison County Virginia, at the age of seven years with her parents emigrated to the state of Ohio. Her Mother died when she was sixteen years old. At the age of eighteen years, she married William Cummings. In the year 1868, she emigrated to Nemaha County Nebraska, where she retained her residence until her death. She was the mother of Eleven Children of whom four were sons, and seven daughters, Thomas and William and Mrs. William Rider and Mrs. John Flack, remain here in this life to mourn her loss. The remainder have gone on before and are now reaping their rewards in the eternal world.


Cards of Thanks: The relatives of the late, Mrs. Lydia Cummings, desire to return thanks to the citizens of Nemaha for the many acts of kindness and the assistance at all times so willingly rendered during the sickness and death of Grandma Cummings. Lydia (COLLINS) Cummings was the daughter of Jacob Collins and his wife Mary Ellsworth, a half sister to Amos Mix Collins, she was the granddaughter of John Collins and Hannah Cosad Collins.
