Engelhardt was born December 4, 1909 in Monona, the son of Frank and Ella (Klasen) Engelhardt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He attended school in the area, and was united in marriage to Ivanelll Kraus Jun 21, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. To this union two children were born. They farmed in the St. Olaf and Monona area until they moved to Monona in 1969.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Ronnie (Sharen) Schlitter, Sullivan, IL.; one son, Ronald, Elkader; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ervy Elvers, Cedar Rapids; one brother, Alonzo, St. Olaf and other relatives.
He was preced in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. The Rev. Henry Knoploh officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
