She was born in Snow Hill, N.C.
Carolyn was the youngest of six children. Carolyn was married to the late Jahira Chaney for 50 years. They resided in Burlington City for the last 47 years.
Carolyn retired from the Burlington County Welfare Board after 19 years of dedicated service.
Carolyn was an active member of Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church. She served in multiple capacities such as the President of the Missionary Society, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Secretary of Trustee Board, Assistant Secretary of Stewardess Board and member of the Lay Council. Carolyn was honored multiple times by the church, by the district and in state-wide conferences, Honors included life Matron - Missionary Society, Mother of the Year, the Brotherhood Award and President of Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church Conference Workers.
She was also active in many community organizations to include but not limited to: The City of Burlington Senior Group, The Friendly Institute of Burlington City, Burlington County AARP (Supporting the Shelter for Battered Women) and the Burlington Country Democratic Committee.
Carolyn leaves to mourn her loving children: Ron (Paula) and Pamela; her two sisters, Jessie (Melvin) Clarke and Jeannie (Robert) Joyner; three grandchildren: Kymberly, Sean, and William; one great-grandchild: Tyrell. She also leaves behind a special friend and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Chaney, and a treasure chest of sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Wesley A. M.E. Church family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at the Wesley AME Zion Church, 204 Sunset Road, Burlington Township. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service. Entombment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington.
