Anna who was a musical genius, graduated from the Mississippi School for Women in Indian Territory. Her father A.F. Loper was a dry goods merchant with his brother. As merchants, the Loper brothers had to maintain the board walk in front of their store as well as the eave from the store covering the board walk. A.F. was repairing the eave when two thugs, who were drunk, fell out in the street and held the last quick draw public gun fight east of the Mississippi River. One of the shots went wild and hit A.F. Loper. He fell from the eave and was killed. The folks of Newton hung the gunman at sunset.
Anna played piano at a revival for Neil French, they fell in love and married, December 6, 1900 in Newton County, Mississippi.
