John D. Blaisdell, 71, longtime Wyoming resident and a veteran of World War I, died early Thursday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne after a lengthy illness.

He was Sept. 4, 1894, at Douglas and spent his early years in the Glendo area, prior to enlisting in the Army for World War I. He served with the Army in France and Germany receiving awards of the Purple Heart and Victory Medal and recognition from the French government.

Returning from military service, he worked at the Sun Ranch on Sweetwater River southwest of Casper, where he met the former Olive M. Miller. They were married in Rawlins in 1924, and lived for several years on their own ranch north of the Sweetwater.

In 1939, they moved to Price, Utah, where Mr. Blaisdell engaged in the lumber and building business for many years. He went into semi-retirement in 1953, when he and his wife returned to Casper to make their home.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Rawlins, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors are his wife, at the family home, 1134 West 21st; a son, John C. Blaisdell, Casper; one grandson, and a brother, Oscar, of Deadwood, S. D.
