James Ronald Hastings, 66, of Basalt, Idaho, passed away November 28, 2010 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

James was born September 2, 1944 in Brigham City, Utah, to a sheep herder, George Danley, and Nettie Lavon Tracy Hastings.
He married Terry Faye Swearingen on May 1, 1965. Together they had four children: Kayron, Jamie, Rhonda and Shane.

James served in the United States Army, based mostly across the seas in Germany. He was a hard worker, working for 44 years at Penford Products in Idaho Falls.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings, including Scoutmaster.
He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, camping and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife, Terry Hastings; a daughter, Rhonda Sue Ockerman; son, Shane Danley Hastings; eight grandchildren; and four siblings, Richard (Dixie) Hastings, Gary (Linda) Hastings, Bonnie (Mike) Bates and Gloria McGregor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Kayron and Jamie Hastings.

He was loved and will be truly missed.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4, at the Firth LDS Stake Center, 823 N. 675 East in Basalt. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery, with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93.
