“Henry Short, 49, Dies Following Brief Illness”

Henry T. Short, 49, of Taylorville died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 1956, at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week.

Mr. Short was born October 23, 1906 in Greenfield, the son of Jesse and Stella (Admire) Short. He married Edith M. Braughton on September 27, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1948. He then married June (Bare) Fishel on September 23, 1949. Mr. Short was a 1924 graduate of Roodhouse High School in Roodhouse. He worked as a mechanic at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, Inc. in Springfield for 4 years, and as a janitor at Davis Memorial Christian Church for 9 years. He was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, June; his mother, Mrs. Stella Short of San Diego, California; four sons, Richard Short, William Short, David Short and Floyd Short, all of Taylorville; two daughters, Ms. Carole Short and Ms. Judy Short, both of Taylorville; three step-sons, John Dennis Fishel, Gary Michael Fishel and Thomas Fishel, all of Taylorville; one step-daughter, Ms. Linda Fishel of Taylorville; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Shelton (Irene) Thomas and Mrs. Harry Willis (Mae) Boston, both of San Diego, California, and Mrs. Robert (Alice) Rose of Champaign; two brothers, George Short of Mattoon and Harold Short of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one sister, Leila Short.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 1956, at Davis Memorial Christian Church. Rev. Charles Day officiated, with burial following in Oak Hill Cemetery. Connolly Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Clyde Lionberger, Byron Dunbar, Gerald Boston, Paul Eldon Poor Sr., Gene Kahl and Gene Berry.
