A. B. Murphree

A. B. Murphree, 85, Tuscumbia, died Sunday at 12:45 p.m. at Tennessee Valley Rest Home after a long illness.

Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Guntharp Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Wendell Klein and Rev. Jerry Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John D. Roan, Maples, Fla.; one son, John Geary, Decatur.

Pallbearers include J. D. Mitchell, Gresham Hall, Percy Hovater, John Sockwell, Hillard Smith, W. E. Matthews, Herman Safley, Jack McCullough, Ray McCullough, Fred Smith

Mrs. Murphree was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia and a member of the Masonic Order.

He was a native of Cullman County and served as Cullman County school superintendent. He taught in many counties in North Alabama including Morgan, Cullman, Colbert, Winston and Walker counties and was on the summer school faculty at Florence State College.

After retirement, Mr. Murphree ran his own general insurance agency in Tuscumbia. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and had a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Funeral services for A.B. Murphree, 85, of Colbert County were held today at 3 p.m. at Guntharp Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur.

Mr. Murphree died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the Tennessee Valley Rest Home in Decatur.

Surviving are one daughter, Mr. J.D. Roan of Naples, Fla., one stepson, John Gary of Decatur; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
