CONCORD - Clyde Casper Barbour, 68, of Concord, NC, and formerly of Altavista died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Carolina Medical Center in Concord, NC. He was the beloved husband of Janet Tucker Barbour. He was born July 3, 1942 in Gretna, a son of Gladys Haskins Barbour of Altavista and the late Alvin Casper Barbour. He was a retired plant facilities manager for Crown Wood Products in Mocksville, NC with 23 years of service and a former employee of the Lane Company. Clyde was a 1964 graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, was an avid UVA fan and supporter of all athletics and academics. He loved playing golf and spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Brian Blake Barbour and his wife Alicia of Concord, NC and Clyde Edward Barbour and his wife Christine of Rockville, MD; three grandchildren, Brian Tomas Tucker Barbour, Benjamin Edward Barbour and Elaina Ross Barbour; two brothers, Jerry L. Barbour and his wife Ruby of Hurt and Paul D. Barbour and his wife Helen of Gretna; two sisters, Lisa B. Ewing and her husband John of Altavista and Louise B. Shelton of Hurt; and special friend, Roger Butler. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Douglas (Doug) Shelton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Chris Brooks with interment to follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the home of Louise Shelton, 4100 Roark Mill Road, Hurt. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the UVA Engineering Foundation, P.O. Box 400256, Charlottesville, VA 22904.
