August Frederick Maschewski SR. was born in Germany. He was the son of Johann Jacob Maschewski and Catharina Meyer. His first wife was Erdmuth (Strauss) from Germany. Their marriage license shows they were married on 24 Dec 1889 in Methler, Germany. According to his passport he sailed to North America on 17 May 1892. His passport shows that he was traveling with his wife and 3-year old daughter. Their immigration records were very difficult to find because his name was transcribed as August Machefski. Erdmuth's name was partially transcribed as "??Tmud Machefski". Their daughter, whom we knew only as Lena, was listed as "Magdalena Machefski". They arrived in June 1892 in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland. They had sailed on the Steamship Braunschweig. Their Port of Departure had been Breman Germany. It shows that he was headed to North Dakota to work as a miner.

Their first U.S. Census record was the 1900 Census of Gallup, New Mexico. August "Maschewsky" was 30 years old, a coal miner, and living with his wife "Mary" and their four children: Lena, August Jr., Henry, and Frank. Erdmuth was listed as "Mary". I do not know if she changed her name, if it was her middle name, or a nickname.

Erdmuth and August had three sons after arriving in America:
August Frederick Maschewski Jr. - born 23 Aug 1892 in North Dakota
Henry Joseph Maschewski - born 12 Oct 1894 in North Dakota
Frank Joseph Maschewski - born August 1897 in New Mexico.

August SR. and Erdmuth or "Mary" were eventually divorced. Erdmuth married Stephan Mauser and moved to Illinois with her daughter Lena and youngest son Frank. Frank went by the last name of Mauser.

August SR. moved to Missouri with their sons August JR. and Henry Joseph Maschewski.
He married, Rachel Marie (Yeoman/Yoeman), on 15 April 1906 and they had seven children:

3. Albert Richard "Ab" Maschewski (1910-1980)
4. Adolph Earnest "Doc" Maschewski (1912-1997)
5. Ruth Estima Maschewski-Francis-Teetor-Cochran (1914-2008) (she outlived three husbands)
6. Clara Mae Maschewski-Bough (1919-1983)
7. Selma Edith Maschewski-Lines (1927-2013)
