Emma Sorenson 1867-1955

The funeral of Mrs. Emma Sorenson, pioneer resident of Gonvick, widow of the late Chris Sorenson, was held at 2 o'clock Friday at Samhold Lutheran church, Gonvick Parish. Rev. E. M. Berg conducted the service with interment following at Samhold cemeter. Pallbearers included Melvin Vangen, Henry Bjerknes, George Norquist, Oscar Erie, Anton Bakken and Olaf Dunrud.
Mrs. Sorenson died at 3 o'clock Saturday, January 1, at the Clearwater County Memorial hospital in Bagley. She had been admitted there for special care when stricken suddenly with critical illness. For the past year she had not enjoyed normal health and her condition necessitated removal from her home in Gonvick to the Good Samaritan Rest Home in Clearbrook several weeks ago.
She was 87 years and 27 days old, having been born December 4, 1867 in Dodge county, Minnesota. Her parents were Sebgorn and Gertrude Aaby, early settlers of that area.
As a youthful member of the family, she accompanied her parents to Brookings, South Dakota, and lived there for several years. In 1890 she married Chris Sorenson and came with him to Clearwater county during the early settlement period. Homestead residence was established on land in Eddy township and the home of her growing family was continued there until 1917 since which time she had resided in Gonvick.
Mrs.Sorenson was a member of the Samhold church congregation, her baptism and confirmation being conferred in the Lutheran faith in early years of her life.
Her husband, Christ Sorenson, former Clearwater county commissioner, died three years ago, preceded by the death of three children in the family.
Surviving are two daughters, Gerty, presently of Clearbrook, Mrs. Andrew Haga (Selma) of Bemidji; and three sons, Edgar, Thomas and Lester of Gonvick. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, 14 gret grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
