A Civil War veteran, his name is missing both from Bates History of Pennsylvania Volunteers and the company register. He did, however, receive a pension for his service, so he was a veteran. He married Mary Amelia Schroeder ca. 1866 and fathered Edward Schweder (b. 1867) and Emma Jane (b. 1868) and took up insurance brokering as his line of work. Cause of death is listed as "organic heart disease."
