Entered into the Army at Ontonagon, Michiganon June 17, 1917. Enlisted in Company "G" 33rd Michigan National Guard Regiment. While training in Camp MacArthur, Texas as Company "G" of the 125th Infantry, 32nd "Red Arrow" Division he was promoted to Corporal. Went overseas with the Company and served with it during its occupation of the trench sector in Alsace, also during battles of Chateau-Thierry, Juvigny, the Argonne and the Argonne-Meuse and later with the Army of Occupation. Wounded by mustard gas attack. Discharged May 29,1919.

The Regiment suffered terrible losses throughout World War I, but inflicted even more terrible on forces which opposed it. As part of the 32nd

They were the first allied division to set foot on German soil and also pierced the German Hindenburg Line of defense. The division it emerged from WWI with the reputation of being a formidable fighting force as evidenced by the nickname the 32nd had gained –"Les Terribles." During WWI the 125th Infantry was under fire for 6 months, fought on 5 fronts, met and vanquished 23 German Divisions while capturing 2,153 POWs. It gained 38 Kilometers in four attacks without loosing any ground. Four Campaign streamers plus the French Croix de Guerre with palm were earned in WWI. The Regiment demobilized in 1919 at Camp Custer, Michigan and reverted back to its status as Michigan National Guard with concurrent assignment to the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division.

Enlisted United States Navy 18 April 1943 - 11 July 1945.
Served as Chief Petty Officer during WWII with US Navy Construction Battalion "SEABEES". Stationed on Saipan and Tinian.

Served as Lieutenant in US Secret Service, US Treasury Building, Washington, DC, Head of uniformed police until retirement from stroke.
