Jessie Myrtice Lee Bates, 79, of Moline, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or American Heart Association.

Jessie was born April 22, 1926, in Early Branch, S.C., daughter of John and Orrie Youmans. She married Virgil J. Bates Feb. 24, 1944, in Norfolk, Va.

Mrs. Bates was past president of the Coal Valley PTA, past president of Gold Star Mothers. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Hoskins, Moline, Joyce and Everett Nesseler, Milan; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Billie Bates, Moline; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Womack, Midway, Ga. She was preceded by a son, Virgil J. Bates Jr., who died in 1971 while serving in the Vietnam War, and a grandson, Daniel Bates.
