In the 1880 Lincoln County census, James and his family are living in the Molino community. Later they had a furniture and undertaker business in McBurg. After the tornado of 1909, James spent days traveling around the area, picking up the bodies of those who were killed. Granddaughter Nannie Bell Dale Haislip told of playing hide- and-seek in the coffins displayed in the front room of her grandfather’s house.

MOLINO: Just four years ago our efficient postmaster, Mr. J. H. Dale,
was disqualified because he was a Democrat.
James died October 29, 1921, and Mary died January 17, 1935.
