St. Louis millionaire and vehicle manufacturer. Mr. Gardner began his business career as a manufacturer of hickory spokes for carriage wheels. He liked "Jogo Blues" by W.C. Handy so much that he sent twenty dollar bills to the bandstand every time Handy played it on stage in St. Louis. So, in honor of Mr. Gardner, Handy named one of his compositions the "St. Louis Blues."
