Henry James Behn was born to the union of John Mosley Behn, Sr. and Mary Barber Behn. His mother having died when he was very young, Henry and his brothers, George, Arthur and J.E. were raised by his father and stepmother, Nancy Hanks Bramlett Behn, the only mother they ever knew. He was the fourth of 16 children of John Mosley Behn, Sr.

Services held on Saturday, June 4, 1959, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Corner of California Avenue and P Street, Bakersfield, California, the Reverend H.A. Green, Clergyman, officiating.

The Fresno Bee newspaper, June 5, 1959:

"Funeral services were held yesterday in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for Henry James Behn, 80, of 325 Hayes Street, Bakersfield, who died May 28th in a Bakersfield hospital. Burial followed in the Union Cemetery.

Behn was born in Hempstead, Texas and had lived in Bakersfield for 27 years.

He is survived by his widow, Lula; two daughters, Gladys Behn of Bakersfield and Minnie Behn of Dallas, Texas; four brothers, George of Bakersfield, Dr. G.E. Behn of Chicago, Mosley of Fresno, and John of Odessa, Texas; and three sisters, Mrs. Mattie M. Jones of San Francisco, Mrs. Addie L. Miller of Allen, Texas, and Mrs. J. Barbara Reid of San Mateo."

**Surviving brother, Leroy (Lurain) Behn, was inadvertently omitted from the obituary.**

Pallbearers: Frank Smith, Russell Lewis, Jeff Wilson, Henry Early, Finis Moland, James Robinson.

Services conducted by Rucker's Mortuary, Bakersfield, CA.
