He was born in Florence, Ala., July 22, 1899, a son of Wiley and Mattie Gray Allen. He married Nellie Green on July 28, 1919. She died Dec. 12, 1972. He married Hazel Inskeep Feb. 27, 1975.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Edward of Flint, Mich., Kenneth of Brimfield, Roger of East Peoria and Rollie of Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Stickle of East Peoria, Mrs. Hollis (Lillian) Swafford of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Mrs. Harold (Evanell) Zemmerman of Bernie, Mo.; a brother, W. D. Allen in Florida; and two sisters, Mrs. Roberta Jones in Alabama and Mrs. Pearl Arnold in Florida.
Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Allen was retired employe of Caterpillar Tractor Co.
