The Reverend - Increase Sumner Lincoln was born in 1790, d. Aug. 3, 1890, graduated from Yale college in 1822 and from Yale Theological school in 1827 (m. Gratia Elisa Smith Dec. 20, 1822, a daughter of Dr. Nathan Smith, professor in Yale Medical college, of his twelve children eight only lived to maturity, six daughters and two sons, his son Nathan Smith, a distinguished physician in Washington, D. C., his son (Sumner is col. in the United States army); son of Seth Lincoln of Warren Mass. Friend of William Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips, and Charles Sumner involved in the anti-slavery cause (abolitionist). Unitarian Minister and was at Middletown for many years, before going to Wilton in 1869. He married a second time to Abby Harwood in 1847. He died at age 91.
