Pioneer County Resident Dies
CUBA—Lewis Wells Howden, Ischua, pioneer cheese-maker of
this vicinity passed away Thursday morning at the home of his
niece, Mrs. Leah Williams in Black Creek.
A lifelong resident of Cattaraugus County, Mr. Howden was
born at Lyndon February 7. 1851, the son of Alexander and
Margaret Wells Howden. He was married in the year 1876 to
Mary DeLana Armstrong at Portville, who preceded him in death
during February 1929.
He is survived by one son, Clayton James Howden of Santa Monica.
Cal., one daughter Mrs. Erwin Wainman of little Genesee, five
grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
He was a member of First Evangelical Church at Olean.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home of the niece in
Black Creek, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, by the Rev. Harley
Sutton, pastor of the Little Genesee Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Obi Cemetery. From the research of Betty Hicks
