Augustus, Weisel, pastor of the German Lutheran church of Ida, was born in Strasburg, Germany, March 4,1838, He came to America in 1849, living in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1853, he became pastor of the Lutheran church on Maujer Street in Brooklyn. Originally the congregation accepted both Lutheran and Reformed (Calvinist) teachings using both Luther's and the Heidelberg Catechisms. However, Lutheran doctrines where exclusively adopted under the Rev. Christian Weisel (1853 - 1877), who led the independent congregation into the Missouri Synod in 1861. Until his pastorate, Unionist (Lutheran and Reformed) clergy from Germany had shepherded the congregation. He had been preaching since 1863. He married Johanna "Jennie"Buerger, in Washington, D.C. July 5, 1865. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Feb. 2, 1847 and died Jan. 7, 1872: They had three children: Emanuel Weisel, born Sept. 11, 1867; Agnes WEISEL, born Feb. 22, 1869, and Hermine Tabra "Tabitha" WEISEL Marx , born Oct. 9, 1870. He married his second wife , Wilhelmina "Minnie" GRAM, in Buffalo, N.Y., July 23, 1872; she was born Sept 4, 1845. Their children are: Theodore Christian Weisel, born March 5, 1876; Dorothea E. WEISEL Mayer born Sept. 28, 1878; Otto Weisel born & died 1879, Mary Magnalena (Lena) WEISEL Quackenbush, born March 11, 1880; Samuel Weisel born & died 1881; Eunice WEISEL Robinson, born June 23, 1882; John Weisel, born July 7, 1884; Barbara WEISEL born & died 1886. He brought his family to Monroe County Michigan in 1877, where he became pastor of the German Lutheran Church of Ida.
