Howerton, George Thomas "Tom"

HOWERTON, George Thomas "Tom" age 70 of Riverside, passed away October 2, 2010 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born December 19, 1939 in Beattyville, KY to the late Ted Howerton and Forrest Bensman. Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Thelma; daughters: Linda Howerton, Cindy McLane and Theresa (Bruce) Lawson; grandchildren: Joseph Howerton, Jeffrey Nipp, Jr., James Howerton, and Jessica McLane; great grandchildren: Jordan and Bradon Howerton and Aimee Lynn Nipp. He retired from General Motors in 2006, where he was a group leader in the body shop, and was a member of IUE-CWA #798. Tom was an avid drag racer, built and worked on cars, was a handyman in many ways and owned Toms Union 76 at the corner of Needmore Road and Troy Pike for more than 20 years. He loved and cherished his family more than anything. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Saturday at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road. The family requests that in Toms honor, please come in your everyday casual clothing. Burial will take place, 1pm on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Riverview Cemetery, Beattyville, KY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Toms memory to the Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
