"Nancy Minteer married John Milligan, a cousin of her brother John's wife. The Milligan family of Western Pennsylvania has a rich historic background and much can be found on it in Pennsylvania Archives, Carnegie Library. This was a couple much loved and respected by relatives and neighbors. Uncle John was said to be a nurse equal to any woman. When there were epidemics of diphtheria or scarlet fever which were so dreaded at this time, this kindly couple, their own children grown and gone, were always ready to go to any stricken family in need to nurse or comfort."

In 1830 the Minteer farm where she lived with her parents and siblings was in Buffalo Township in Armstrong County, PA. By 1840 the population had increased sufficiently that that the northern part of Buffalo Township had become Franklin Township, so the farm had a new address.

In 1860 she and John and their six children lived on a farm in Clearfield Township, Butler County, PA.
In 1870 she and her husband and their five youngest children lived on a farm in West Franklin Township in Armstrong County. He owned real property worth $4500 and personal property valued at $1000. Also living with them was another of John's uncles, James Milligan, age 77.
