OBITUARY:
John D. Hammer, 72 died at his home, 1118 West Elm Street at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon, following a week's illness of paralysis. He had been a resident of Kokomo for the past 34 years.
Mr. Hammer was born in Miami County Jan 5, 1869, son of Henry S. and Eliza Hammer. He was married to Fannie Meltzer January 5, 1890. Twelve children were born to them. Three children died in infancy and one son Chauncey died in 1922.
Surviving are the widow and four daughters and four sons: Mrs. John Frey of Converse, Mrs. Ben H. Sutton of Loree. Mrs. Charles Foust of Peru, Jesse Hammer of South Bend and Clifford and Lester Hammer and Mrs. Chester Bone, all of Kokomo. He leaves also 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Hammer followed the carpenter's trade the greater part of his life, but since 1920 he had been employed by the Kingston Products company. He moved from Wawpecong to Kokomo in 1918.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Wawpecong United Methodist Church of which he was a member, followed by burial in Clymer cemetery. The body will be removed from the Wayne Ladd funeral home to the home in Kokomo at 10:00 a.m. Monday.
