Family rumor has it that Franklin Day was abandoned by his father Charles Day and was later raised by his grandfather William A. Day. This is probably true, but I don't think it is so black and white as it appears. On October 1, 1919 Franklin Day assumed his duties as Assistant Secretary General for Europe, to work with Secretary General for Europe, J.C. Rocquet. He had also been with the United States Legation at Berne, Switzerland and after the armistice became Secretary of the United States Mission at Berlin. Like his grandfather he was also a prominent figure in Equitable Life, in which I think he was later elected as Vice-President. Franklin was married on November 17, 1920 in Waynesville, North Carolina to Elizabeth Mabel Boyd, daughter of James William Boyd and Adelaide Teresa Wilton. Elizabeth was born on May 18, 1899 in Washington D.C. They lived in New York City and were later divorced on April 3, 1936 by the Second Judicial District Court of Washoe County, Nevada, case number 52,584. Elizabeth died on November 25, 1962 in Norfolk, Virginia from insulin shock. She is buried in Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville, North Carolina. Franklin remarried on April 23, 1936 in Manhattan, New York to Geraldine Wall, daughter of Robert G. Wall and Anna Callahan. She was an actress and was born around 1907 in Chicago, Illinois. A short time later they were divorced on November 9, 1937 by the Second Judicial District Count of Washoe County, Nevada, case number 57,867. Franklin was married a third time on September 2, 1939 to Eula Mae Walker, daughter of Samuel Edward Walker and Lela Kimball. Eula was born on June 29, 1910 in Fayette, Alabama.

Franklin's full name was "Wolfram Charles Franklin Day".
