Jonathan was the 3rd of 10 children of James & Margaret (Garrett) Mundell. He was born between 1755-1760.

In about 1791 (probably in Washington Co, PA) Jonathan married Catherine Buckingham.

The couple had 5 known children: Margaret, Lydia, John, James & Levi.

According to family stories Jonathan was a gunsmith. He apparently used these skills to help his neighbors to meet the needs present in the early pioneer days.

Jonathan, Catherine and the five children moved to Hamilton County, OH 1790-95 near Mt Washington from Greene Co, PA. They apparently did not establish a permanent residence in Ohio until 1804 residence. Information shows them in Ohio and Greene County, PA, (Goshen Baptist Church Records).

In 1820 Jonathan was working a farm in Anderson twp, Hamilton Co, OH. In 1827 he was back in Greene County. In 1830 he was back in Anderson twp.

(Note several of the Buckingham family went to Ohio in the 1790s and did not permanently establish Ohio as their home for over a decade.)
