Born in Statesboro, Ga, he was a son of Mrs Flossie Knight Compton and the late Manning D Compton. he was a member of Sping Gully Baptist Church, West Andrews. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a Mason, and was a former Apex Road Construction employee.
Suriving are a son, James Malcolm Compton Jr of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Mrs Ann Compton Autry [Larry Autry] of Camden, NC; a stepson, Perry K Mason of Alburquerque, NM; his mother of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs Dorothy Compton Parnell of Andrews, Mrs Lucia Compton McAlhaney of Varnville and Mrs Gloria Compton Ray of Greensboro; brothers, Wallace K Compton and John F Compton of Greensboro; and grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Goldfinch Funeral Chapel with buril in Hillcrest Cemetery.
