Martha Edwards Adkins
Martha Edwards Adkins, age 81 of Marion, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born in Yancey County on July 16, 1932, she was the daughter of Martin and Pansy Wilson Edwards. Martha loved spending her time working with her flowers and vegetables and enjoyed crocheting. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William I. "Ike" Adkins in 1998, a son Gordon Adkins and a daughter-in-law, Amy Adkins.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Gary Adkins and wife Sandra, Tom Adkins and Katrina Adkins, all of Marion; a brother Charlie Edwards of Cleveland and a sister, Louise Smith of Greensboro. Ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Gentry officiating. The family will receive friends for 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery in Yancey County
