Sarah was born in Monroe County, the daughter of Henry Alexander and Elizabeth Holmes Bostick. After her father died during the Civil War and her mother moved to Kanawha County, Sarah stayed with her uncle, Andrew Eldridge Bostick. She married Charles "Matt" Hall of the Knobs on November 7, 1872. Together they had fourteen children, 7 surviving to adulthood: Charles, Silas and Earl Hall, Florence Fisher, Myrtle Hunter, Eva Pearl Dixon, and Virginia Brown; and 7 who died as infants: John, Annalaura, Minnie, Oscar, Henry, Allen and an unnamed infant.
