Anthony Ewing was the son of Samuel and Sarah Mackelrath (McElrath) Ewing and had siblings: Henry(1811), Samuel, and John. Anthony was the first white child born near Wolfe Rapids, Wood County, and was a boy at the time of the War of 1812. Early in life he was a sailor on the Great Lakes, but he subsequently became a farmer. He lived a while in Lucas County, afterward locating near Perrysburg, Wood County; he died in Lucas County aged 78 years. Politically he was an old-time Whig. He was twice married, his first wife being miss Rebecca Loop, by whom he had three children and to his second union with Adelade Harpel eight children were born.

Anthony Ewing had children: Henry (died 1913 California), Sarah, and Samuel by his first wife and Wesley H.(married Rhoda Kittles), Bethiah (married Zack Jenson and moved to Michigan), Anthony (lived in Norwalk, Huron County), Joseph (moved to Texas), Martha (who died at age 3), Julia (married Samuel Jenson and moved to Michigan), Esther (married George Pierson and moved to Saginaw, Michigan), Tunis (who married Jenny Crowley in Saginaw, Michigan)and Charles (who married Anna Green in Saginaw, Michigan)by his second. Anthony first married Rebecca Loop on 7 August 1836 in Wood County. Following her death, he then married Addie Harpel in Sandusky County, Ohio, on 11 July 1852.

Another of the earliest settlers at Orleans, Samuel Ewing, lost his life in 1822 after an assault by John Lewis in a tavern near Roche-de-Boeuf (south of Waterville) operated by Isaac Richardson. In one of Wood County's first trials, Mr. Lewis was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to three years imprisonment, but he escaped from jail in Maumee and was never seen again.

In 1870 Anthony was in Pentwater, Michigan working in a sawmill.
